Are you passionate about building sustainable funding partnerships that create meaningful environmental impact?

WESSA is seeking a strategic and experienced Head of Philanthropy and Resource Mobilisation (PRM) to lead the implementation of our fundraising strategy and help build a diversified, sustainable funding base for WESSA’s conservation and education work across South Africa.

This is a senior leadership role reporting to the CEO, responsible for driving a target-driven fundraising strategy across individual, foundation, corporate and government donors. The role will focus on growing both restricted and unrestricted income, developing long-term donor relationships and strengthening WESSA’s funding base.

The successful candidate will provide ExCo-level leadership in aligning fundraising with WESSA’s organisational strategy and programme priorities. This includes identifying and developing funding opportunities, integrating grant development into programme planning, strengthening impact reporting and ensuring credible Monitoring & Evaluation for funders and the Board.

The role also carries responsibility for donor pipeline governance, bequest records and the PRM unit’s budget, with accountability for delivering against blended income targets. Working closely with the CEO and ExCo, the successful candidate will also strengthen WESSA’s regular and bulk giving base, represent WESSA at high-level events and build strategic partnerships across sectors.

The position requires strong relationship-building, communication, proposal development, financial and analytical skills, as well as the ability to manage fundraising systems, coordinate grant integration with programmes and ensure credible impact reporting.

The individual will be based at WESSA’s Johannesburg office, with travel required.
