Help protect our precious wildlife
Support uMngeni Valley’s New Wildlife Protection Unit
The uMngeni Valley Nature Reserve is more than just a landscape, it is a living sanctuary. Towering cliffs, open grasslands, and winding rivers provide a home to some of South Africa’s most remarkable wildlife. From small mammals and rich birdlife to endangered species, the valley is alive with natural heritage that must be protected.
But today, this sanctuary is under increasing pressure. The risks of illegal hunting threaten the delicate balance that has allowed these animals to thrive for generations. Without stronger protection, we stand to lose more than species; we risk losing a vital piece of our shared heritage.
That is why WESSA is launching a dedicated Wildlife Protection Unit at uMngeni Valley. This team of rangers will patrol day and night, safeguard vulnerable species, and work closely with local communities to foster shared responsibility for the valley’s natural treasures.
Your support is what will make this possible.
With your help, we can provide training and safety equipment, so rangers are prepared for the realities of field patrols; radios, vehicles, and patrol gear to cover the valley’s vast and rugged terrain; and community engagement programmes that build trust and inspire conservation action among those who live closest to the reserve.
Every gift makes a real difference.
R250 can supply overnight ration packs for rangers on patrol.
R500 can purchase essential gear like boots and torches.
R1000 can contribute towards specialised training.
By making a gift today, you are not just donating to a programme – you are joining us as a guardian of uMngeni Valley.
Together, we can ensure this refuge continues to thrive, not only for its wildlife, but for the children and communities who depend on the valley’s beauty, biodiversity, and the hope it inspires.
