uMngeni Valley’s Zebra need Your help

Help safeguard the future of uMngeni Valley Nature Reserve’s zebra population

The zebra of uMngeni Valley Nature Reserve are part of a remarkable conservation story, but today, their future is at risk.

Our reserve’s zebra population is facing a serious challenge that many isolated wildlife populations encounter: limited genetic diversity. Without new bloodlines, the herd’s long-term health is threatened, leaving them vulnerable to disease, weakened reproduction, and reduced adaptability to environmental shifts.

If you’ve ever visited the uMngeni Valley Nature Reserve, you’ll know how special these animals are. Many guests are greeted by the relaxed zebra that wander up from the valley, grazing in the gardens around the reception area and even pausing for a good scratch against the signposts. They’re not just wildlife; they’re part of the living character of the reserve.

To secure their future, we urgently need to introduce new stallions to strengthen the herd’s genetic diversity. We need R25,000 to make this possible.

Your gift will directly support the careful relocation and introduction of new stallions – covering veterinary assessments, specialist transport, monitoring, and safe introduction into the herd.

By acting now, you will help preserve a healthy, resilient zebra population at uMngeni Valley for generations to come.

Will you help us reach our goal? Whether you can give R100, R500, or more, every contribution brings us closer to protecting their future populations.

Your contribution today will help us keep uMngeni Valley stripey for generations to come.
