WESSA Living Green Expo 2008

Welcome to the Lowveld Region of WESSA

We are proud to announce WESSA's first ever Living Green EXPO was held in the Lowveld at Casterbridge Farm in White River on 30 August 2008.

Casterbridge Farm was perfect for the event and there was a great vibe further facilitated by the Southern Cross School Drummers who announced each 'happening' throughout the day. Visitors to the Expo found a wide variety of excellent green products to explore ranging from worm farms to solar water heaters, solar cookers, waste disposal units, alternative energy systems, organic beer, natural hydrogels and more. There were also interesting talks and workshops to attend throughout the day.

Congratulations and thanks to all our exhibitors, speakers and the team at Casterbridge, including Casterbridge Cinema, for making the Expo such a great success.

Details of our Exhibitors and Speakers can be found on the various pages if this website.

A Welcome from our Chairman....

Welcome to WESSA Lowveld , the local chapter of South Africa 's oldest, most widespread and participatory environmental organization. The W ildlife and E nvironment S ociety of S outh A frica has been at the forefront of conservation and people coming to terms with their environment for over 80 years.

In the Lowveld we are faced with particular environmental challenges. Whereas direct conservation is the responsibility of state agencies (National and Provincial Parks Boards) the places where ordinary people live are being steadily overloaded. WESSA is very concerned that the human footprint in the lowveld is unbearably heavy. We carry not only our own population but being downstream of Gauteng and the highveld we also carry much of their human burden as well. This is most crucial in respect of shared water resources, which are quite simply just running out.

With this in mind WESSA Lowveld wants to get you involved in finding ways to lighten the human impact on living in this wonderful but embattled region. What you build and the way you live and the example you set for others are vital to our survival. We urgently need to change wasteful habits and demand resource efficient design. We held the Living Green Expo in White River to showcase what is possible and what is new in the way of more sustainable living. WESSA Lowveld invites you to Participate in Caring for the Earth.
