What is significant here is that of those 1030 schools registered in 2009, only 344 were new schools indicating that 67% of all schools in 2009 had been with the programme for at least more than one year i.e. they had re-registered. This is again very positive in light of one of the main aims of the Programme; that is to ensure sustainability and to help ensure that schools keep registering and sustaining and developing their Eco-Schools work

Table 3: Eco-School Registrations per province from 2003.

The trend shows a steady growth in the numbers of schools participating in the programme. It should be noted that registrations for 2010 only close in May when we expect final numbers to be in the region of 1100-1200.
Another point worth mentioning is that more almost 60% of all registered schools have been with the programme for 2/3/4/5/6 or 7 years which is one of the main aims to ensure that schools signing up sustain and develop their Eco-Schools projects and that it becomes part of how the school is managed (see table 4 for a more comprehensive analysis).
